Sensitive topics
Through discussions with our participants and community groups, we have identified several topics that are particularly sensitive to members of the Genes & Health communities. It is of utmost importance to us that research in these sensitive areas is conducted with care, consideration and under the guidance of our volunteers.
Research applications involving analyses of inherited genetic conditions, parental relatedness (consanguinity), mental health and sexual health are likely to require additional review by community representatives due to the sensitive nature of these topics.
Our Community Advisory Board, composed of community members and leaders, meets regularly to review applications that touch on sensitive issues. This committee has the authority to recommend modifications to the proposed research or may advise additional consultations before granting approval. They may also stipulate specific conditions, such as necessitating further consultation regarding the dissemination of research findings.
