How to use the spit kit

Do not eat, drink, or chew paan for half an hour before giving the spit sample.

Spit into the funnel, closing your mouth around the funnel to create a seal until the amount of liquid saliva (not bubbles) reaches the fill line.

Hold the tube upright with one hand. Close the funnel lid with the other hand by firmly pushing the lid until a loud click is heard. The stabilising liquid in the funnel lid will be released into the tube to mix with the saliva.

Hold the tube upright. Unscrew the funnel from the tube.

Use the small cap to close the tube tightly.

Shake the capped tube for 10 seconds. Discard funnel lid.

Put the sealed sample back in the box and put the box in the provided envelope.

Put the envelope in any post box and it will be sent to the Genes & Health team in East London.
